If your pet is under treatment at another practice, we will need to contact them and get the case records faxed through. It saves waiting time at the surgery if we can arrange this in advance of your visit. Some clients worry that this will be resented by their usual vet, and do not want us to contact them, but a case history is most important. Drugs that have not worked, or which have disagreed with your pet can be avoided, and an informed opinion on moving forward with the case made. Please do not worry that your vet will be upset, as this is a very normal part of practice life.
If you wish a second opinion on a case, but would then be returning to your normal surgery, please make this clear to the Reception staff so that we can pass this onto your vet when we contact them. Arranging a second opinion by seeing a different vet may be possible within your existing practice on request.
We are happy to offer treatments which your existing practice cannot (such as acupuncture or laser treatment) in cooperation with your vet, without you having to transfer to us completely.
If you are unhappy with your existing vet, or with any aspects of your pets treatment there, the first step should be to ask for a discussion with the practice manager or senior vet. In this practice, we always want to know if clients are unhappy with any aspect of their pets care, and most other practices feel the same. Often, the problem is a simple misunderstanding or communicaiton breakdown, and can be easily resolved.
